Statement from NIHR Regarding Social Media Reports on the Use of Force at the Reform and Rehabilitation Center
In response to social media reports alleging the use of force at one of the buildings of the Reform and Rehabilitation Center in Jau, a team from the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) conducted an unannounced visit to the center to verify the accuracy of these claims.
NIHR reports that after conducting field inspections, there was no evidence to support these allegations. NIHR urges the need for accuracy in disseminating information and relying on trustworthy sources before circulating news, to prevent the spread of rumors that could negatively impact the families of the inmates and infringe upon individual rights.
NIHR reaffirms its commitment to monitoring conditions within reform and rehabilitation centers and to intensifying its efforts to protect and enhance the rights of the inmates.
